Troubled star Sheridan Smith in 999 dash after collapse at plush A-list retreat
ACTRESS Sheridan Smith was rushed to hospital by ambulance after collapsing at an A-list retreat where her life was said to be looking up.
Shocked staff at Champneys Health Spa dialled 999 after the troubled star — on stress leave after pulling out of performances of West End production Funny Girl — was suddenly taken ill.
Two ambulances were called and paramedics attended the scene before the 34-year-old was taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.
She was later released and was said to have made a full recovery.
Cilla star Sheridan’s 999 scare came after weeks of openly sharing her problems with fans on social media.
A source said: “Sheridan has been at Champneys to undergo total rest while she’s been recuperating during her time off from Funny Girl.
“She has been in a better place and things have been looking up, but on Sunday there was a medical emergency and ambulances were called. But she is doing much better and it has nothing to do with stress or her state of mind.”
A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: “We were called just before 5.20pm on Sunday following reports of a woman in need of medical attention.
“A car from South Central Ambulance Service was sent, along with an ambulance which we assisted with. She was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital as a priority.”
Champneys has become connected with troubled celebrities seeking to flee London during tough times.
The spa focuses on giving clients total relaxation as well as helping treat health issues including sleep problems.
Sheridan sparked concerns last month when a performance of Funny Girl was abandoned after less than half an hour, with fans claiming she was “drunk” and slurring her words.
The Sun then revealed how she downed drinks and got cosy with three male stars after the TV Baftas.
The next day a scheduled performance of her stage musical was axed.
Sheridan went on to miss two further shows before The Savoy Theatre issued a statement announcing she would be taking two to four weeks off “due to stress and exhaustion”.
The star had previously revealed on Twitter that her dad was battling cancer.
