Stacey Solomon reveals post-natal depression struggle in candid Lorraine interview
The 26-year-old spoke very openly about the difficulties she faced
STACEY Solomon has said she felt like a ‘bad person’ during her post-natal depression battle.
The 26-year-old was just 18 years old when she suffered from the crippling disorder after giving birth to Zachary, now seven.
Speaking about her struggle during an appearance on Lorraine today, the X Factor star said: “I felt like I was a really bad person for feeling that way and when I started speaking to other mums I just thought it would be really important to get the message out there and make people feel like you are actually a really normal person.”
Stacey made a documentary about her experience back in 2013 – which won her lots of praise at the time.
“We all go through different emotions and I am such a positive person it was really strange to me to feel that way and I really enjoyed doing the documentary. I tried to open people’s eyes and tell them ‘you’re normal’,” she told Lorraine.
The singer, who is also mum to Leighton, continued: “You can get through it and learning to accept it is the first part of getting through it and hopefully the more awareness you bring to it the easier it is to accept.”
And discussing some of the feelings she had to battle with, she admitted: “You feel selfish. You feel like so many people out there have obviously got it so much worse and have much bigger problems so you feel like ‘there’s something wrong with me’ or ‘I shouldn’t feel like this. but actually it really is so normal.
“There’s so much going on with you9r body at the time, you’ve just got to accept it and then ‘how do I deal with this’.”
Stacey also opened up about her current relationship with fellow TV star Joe Swash.
“I feel really lucky. He’s lovely,” she told the Scottish host.
“He’s just so normal and down to earth and reminds me of me and my family. He’s going to have such a big head after this show. I hope he’s in bed asleep.”
And she admitted that she would love to work with him when Lorraine suggested they could host I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here¿ Now together.
“That would be so much fun. I’d love that. What a dream job,” she gushed.
