Corrie’s Todd Grimshaw is becoming a singer: Actor Bruno Langley releases first EP

The multi-talented man is proving that not only can he act, but he can also sing, play instruments and write his own songs

HE'S already had a successful career playing Todd Grimshaw on Coronation Street, but Bruno Langley can do more than just act.

A multi-talented performer, he's releasing his first EP next month.

His EP will be released in June

The EP, entitled Jump, will feature songs that he not only sings and plays instruments on, but also wrote himself.

Speaking about the career change, the 33-year-old explained: “As an actor I play a character who is never far away from the dark side of life, so music is a complete release from that role."

The four melodic pop songs featured on the debut EP are certainly lighter than his scheming Corrie storylines.

The title song, Jump - a catchy number about falling in love - was written with his musically gifted sister Gita, whilst the other three are solely Bruno's own compositions.

He also included another of his sisters, Amy, in the project too - she plays the strings on Believe.

The actor-turned-singer and his siblings grew up making music together.

He said: “I grew up in a musical household and we were very fortunate in that we had our own music room.

"My father could just pick up and instrument and play it, and my four sisters are all gifted musicians; they play guitar, cello and violin."

Whilst as a regular on Coronation Street he's given words to say, the father-of-one writes his own songs.

Speaking about the creative process, he's said: “I find that it’s a bit like therapy to write songs, it’s a way of putting things right, of changing the way the story ends, and sharing your view of the world with other people.

"Other times you can write a song that is just a lot of fun, or maybe you’ve got a good baseline and it all stems from there!

"Sometimes a song just comes to me, it’s as if it’s always been there, and sometimes it fees like it floated in through the window."

The final two songs on the EP are inspired by real life.

Comeback is based on TV show The Big Reunion, about a boy band getting back together, whilst The Greatest Thing is a tribute to his son Freddie.

Teasing his new music on Twitter, he posted a photo of himself with producer Mark Lewis surrounded by instruments and microphones.

He wrote: "Me & @MarkyLewis on location recording some baby grand for my debut EP 'Jump'. Can't wait for you guys to hear it!"

Executive producer Mike Bennet was impressed with the actor's music skills, saying: "Not only is Bruno Langley a versatile musician, his velvet vocal textures are a delight, and his musical style transcends the genres.

"He is a consummate song writer with a vocal talent to match."

However, Corrie fans will be pleased to hear that embarking upon a musical career doesn't mean Bruno is turning his back on acting altogether.

He's said: “I am not leaving Weatherfield, Todd will be around on the cobbles for the foreseeable future, however music has always been a passion of mine, and I am thrilled to be releasing my first EP, it has been about thirty years in the making!”
