Loki’s Gugu Mbatha-Raw admits she isn’t a ‘major MCU nerd’ despite landing role in Disney+ series
LOKI’S Gugu Mbatha-Raw has admitted she isn’t a ‘major MCU nerd’ despite landing a role in the Disney+ series.
The 37-year-old actress will star alongside Tom Hiddleston in an as-yet-unnamed role in the Marvel spin-off series.
Despite the Marvel Cinematic Universe spawning 23 films so far, Gugu admitted in a new interview that she was a bit rusty on it all.
Revealing she had been on a steep learning curve, she told : “I can’t confess to being a major MCU nerd.
“Obviously, it’s a big part of our culture, so I had a huge awareness of it and it’s funny because I actually went to drama school at the same time as Tom Hiddleston.”
Tom, 39, is reprising his role as the titular Loki, which has played on numerous occasions in the MCU films.
Gugu continued: “Ten years ago when I first came out here to do a TV pilot, ‘Under Covers,’ he was shooting the first ‘Thor’ at the same time.
“I remember him telling me about this experience of this new movie that he was doing.”
While the actress remained tightlipped about the TV series and her character, she did heap praise on Sex Education’s Kate Herron’s directorial debut for the MCU.
She said: “She’s so fresh and interesting. I feel like even though you’re dealing with this big universe, she still makes it feel very intimate.
“She just brings it back down to character and moments and emotions.”
Gugu’s comments come after her co-star Sophia Di Martino hinted that filming will resume soon.
The actress posted a picture on her Instagram of her video calling her friend and stunt-double and captioned it: “Socially distant strunt training with my brilliant friend (& stunt double) @sarah__irwin.”
