Kirstie Alley launched a scathing attack on Netflix's 13 Reasons Why

The Cheers star, 69, hopped on social media and warned her followers: ";Don’t let your kids watch 13 Reasons Why…DARK so DARK and such an onslaught of the most non stop f**ked upness to come down the highschool pike since Caligula was 16."

Due to the illustration of very mature and sensitive issues in the high school drama, Allen added that only those aged between 40-70 should be watching it.

After some fans disagreed with her point of view, Alley retaliated: "When you have kids and they’re 14 or 15 hit me back if you want them to watch a boy anally raped with a broomstick after having his head bashed in."

She wasn't done there as she continued her scathing attack: "13 reasons why '13 Reasons Why' is for an adult audience and IN MY OPINION damaging to teenagers. You needn’t agree."

The Hollywood star has two children — William True, 27, and Lillie Price, 26, from her second marriage to Parker Stevenson and is now a grandmother.

The show polarized viewers as it tackled the tough subject of teenage suicide in season one.

Graphic scenes showed how the character Hannah took her own life, and were so disturbing Netflix even edited the scene to make for more suitable viewing.

In the following seasons, scenes involving rapes and divisive plot lines have meant the show continues to raise questions about whether it focused too much on traumatic events.

13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn didn't know he was being killed off in what was a tragic shock final twist.

He played troubled teen Justin Foley, who passed away after losing a longstanding battle with drugs and living a rough life on the streets when he was homeless.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "It definitely wasn't at the beginning [of the season]. We read that first script and we saw that there was the funeral.

"I think I literally raced to [showrunner] Brian [Yorkey] right after the first table read and was like, 'It's Justin isn't it?'"

He added: "Brian was one of those people who was like, 'We can't kill off the character who's continually trying to be better.' I was like, 'Oh, yes we can.'"

"Then it was in the middle of shooting that Brian and I went to dinner. I kind of knew when he texted me about dinner, and sure enough, we sat at the table and he's like, 'We're gonna put Justin to rest.'"
