WARNING: Spoilers for 13 Reasons Why season 4 below!

The giant streaming platform released the high school drama's final series earlier this month, which saw all the students graduate after a tumultuous four years at Liberty High.

Death, rape and violence haunted those that attended the school, but finally they were able to put their demons to rest and look ahead to a positive future.

Before that however, the characters said a tearful goodbye to Justin in what was a very emotional funeral.

Flynn, 26, told Entertainment Weekly exactly when he knew his character wouldn't make it to the very end of the series.

He explained: "It definitely wasn't at the beginning [of the season]. We read that first script and we saw that there was the funeral.

"I think I literally raced to [showrunner] Brian [Yorkey] right after the first table read and was like, 'It's Justin isn't it?'"

He added: "Brian was one of those people who was like, 'We can't kill off the character who's continually trying to be better.' I was like, 'Oh, yes we can.'"

"Then it was in the middle of shooting that Brian and I went to dinner. I kind of knew when he texted me about dinner, and sure enough, we sat at the table and he's like, 'We're gonna put Justin to rest.'"

Justin's final words to Klay Jensen (Dylan Minnette), who became his adopted brother in series three after he was taken in by Klay's parents, was one of the most heart-wrenching moments of the series.

The pair came full circle after being at loggerheads in the early stages of the show when Klay blamed Justin for Hannah Baker's suicide.

Brandon said he actually enjoyed playing his character's final scenes despite not knowing for a long time what his fate would be.

He revealed: " When I found out was timed perfectly because I got the opportunity to play Justin in his rehabilitation without knowing where the story was going.

"That was such a bonus for me because sometimes it's difficult not to play the ending. And I didn't know the ending so I had nothing to play!"

It wouldn't have been the finale of 13 Reasons Why without mentioning the character who started it all, Hannah (Katherine Langford).

The character committed suicide and left tapes for her friends to figure out why she did it in series 1.

She made a touching comeback during the last episode of season 4 and fans were quick to admit they "cried" in the finale when the character, is seen on screen following her classmates' graduations.

Hannah's final scene came back in season two, when the character officially left the show following her suicide.

Clay Jensen, is reminiscing about his time at college she returns in an emotional encounter hugely similar to when he first set eyes on her in the opening series of the hard-hitting Netflix programme.
