Wayne Rooney pays tribute to wife Coleen on wedding anniversary after lockdown made their marriage ‘stronger than ever’
WAYNE Rooney paid sweet tribute to wife Coleen on their 12-year wedding anniversary - after lockdown made their marriage "stronger than ever".
The 34-year-old footballer took to his Instagram page this evening to mark the special occasion.
The star shared a loved-up throwback photo, captioning the post: "Happy anniversary @coleen_rooney. 12 years today. Love you always ❤️".
It comes after Coleen shared her own throwback to their wedding party earlier in today.
The couple, who tied the knot in a £5m extravaganza in Italy, were all smiles in the dancefloor picture taken towards the end of the evening.
Coleen is grinning holding a glass of bubbly, while her other hand is lovingly placed on Wayne's neck, pulling him in for a hug.
She captioned the sweet post: "Happy anniversary @waynerooney.... 12 years since that unbelievable celebration. I love you x"."
Earlier this month, The Sun Online revealed that Coleen had "fallen in love with Wayne all over again" after a rocky few years.
During lockdown, the couple have been staying in their £6million Cheshire mansion with their four sons, 10-year-old Kai, seven-year-old Klay, four-year-old Kit, and Cass, two.
The quality family time has done them a world of good, and reminded 34-year-old Coleen of the man that she fell in love with.
A source told us at the time: "Wayne and Coleen Rooney are stronger than ever after spending lockdown together.
"This is the longest time they have spent together uninterrupted since they got married, and Coleen has fallen in love with Wayne all over again.
"She says that she now remembers what a wonderful, caring companion he is - and an amazing dad to the boys."
The insider continued: "They've been through the mill, but the last couple of months have been a revelation to them all.
"It's going really well and truly bonded them as a loving, family unit."
After a year playing football in the US, 34-year-old Wayne signed an 18-month contract with Derby County, keeping him closer to home for Coleen and the boys.
He has now started commuting to the club, but "can't wait" to get back home to his family at the end of each day.
Wayne and Coleen's romance has been dogged with controversy over the years, with Coleen left fuming in 2017 when her husband was caught in a car with party girl Laura Simpson and tested positive for drink-driving.
At the time, the Wag was concerned that things might have gone further if Rooney hadn’t been pulled over – while Laura admitted she would have "s****ed him".
Wayne was sentenced to 100 hours community service, after admitting to drink-driving.
The following year, Coleen sensationally ditched her wedding ring as she flew to the US to demand Wayne ended his DC United contract early and returned home after he was spotted laughing and joking with another woman after a boozy night out.
She did the same in February last year after The Sun revealed how the sportsman knocked back shots until 2.30am with barmaid Vicki Rosiek in Florida.
At the time, Wayne had told friends he would be "devastated" if Coleen leaves but also "relieved" as they were both so unhappy in their marriage.
Coleen and Wayne met when she was just 12 years old, and got married in June 2008 - 17 months before they welcomed their first child.
