The show has not been on British screens for 11 years and Gordon, 53, has not fronted it since the debut series in 2004.

A source close to Gordon said: “He’s always wanted to bring Hell’s Kitchen back to British TV and he wouldn’t want anyone else to be fronting its revival.

“Despite only hosting one series in the UK, it’s one of the shows with which he is most closely associated, mainly because his notorious temper produced some of its best moments.

“Despite Gordon making life a misery for many of the celebrities, famous faces are likely to be clamouring to sign up.”

Gordon moved from ITV to Channel 4.

He presented The F Word and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares.

It was a hit and helped launch his US TV career.

In the UK, it had three more years with Gary Rhodes and Jean-Christophe Novelli head chefs on the second series and Marco Pierre White in charge for the third and fourth.

Gordon has increasingly returned to produce British TV shows, including ITV’s Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip since 2018 and an upcoming BBC1 series, Future Food Stars.

He is working with David Beckham as the former football great develops his own cookery show.

His busy schedule means filming on the UK Hell’s Kitchen UK revival is unlikely to start until 2021.
