THE Chase star Shaun Wallace says police mistook him for a criminal twice when leaving court as he discussed racial profiling on Lorraine.

The Chaser - who is a barrister and better known as The Dark Destroyer on the ITV quiz show - was approached by plain-clothes officers twice as he 'fit the profile' of a suspect in a burglary.

Shaun only managed to diffuse the situation by showing them his barrister robes and wig.

Speaking on Lorraine, The Chaser said: "I was coming out of Kingston Crown Court with a solicitor who happened to be white.

"I was approached by these plain clothes police officers who basically said you fit the profile and description of someone who was involved in a robbery.

"I was simply taken aback and startled. They said to me, 'where were you?' And I said Kingston Crown Court. 'What were you doing there?' Well I said, you can look inside my bag and you'll see what. And when he saw my robes he was totally astonished."

Then it happened again when he arrived in Watford following an appearance at Liverpool Crown Court.

He said: "On another occasion I was coming out of Liverpool Crown Court and I was just getting off the train at Watford Junction.

"Again I was approached by these two plain clothes police officers. Again, they said the same thing to me. 'You fit the profile of someone we want to speak to about a robbery'.

"And I was totally startled and I had to show them my wig and gown. And they wasn't even apologetic in their conduct or response."

Shaun spoke about his experiences on Lorraine as Black Lives Matter protests erupted across the country in support of George Floyd, who was murdered by American police.

However, the protests are now focusing on British issues, including policing and the removal of monuments.

In Bristol, protesters tore down the statue of slave trader Edward Colston and threw it into the harbour.

Shaun encouraged protesters to demonstrate peacefully, and gave advice for young people who are stopped and searched like he was.

He added on Lorraine: "If you are stopped and searched, you've got nothing to fear if you've done nothing wrong.

"So respond to the police officers in a dignified and calm manner."
