After Life star Ashley Jensen reveals Ricky Gervais is already writing season 3 for Netflix in lockdown

AFTER Life star Ashley Jensen has confirmed Ricky Gervais is penning a third series.

The award-winning actor has been given the green light from Netflix and is already writing the script, confirmed co-star Ashley.

The After Life and Extras star told The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Rylan Clark-Neal about the upcoming season.

The 50-year-old said: "I know a third series is already on its way. And I think Ricky has tapped a few words into his computer, or quill, or whatever he uses."

It's thought the actor and writer has been offered a massive £5million deal from Netflix for the third series of After Life.

The seven-figure package includes the funnyman writing a number of comedy specials alongside the next instalment of his cult show.

A source said: “After Life smashed expectations again with the second series and Netflix wanted to tie Ricky down with a big-money deal.

“They basically approached him with a blank cheque and after bashing out the finer details he will receive just over £5million for the third After Life.

"As part of the wider deal Ricky will also pen a couple of comedy shows and skits for Netflix."

He said on the third series: “Because so many of you watched #AfterLife2 so quickly and made it Number 1 again, the nice people at Netflix have suggested that I get off my fat a**e and do another season. This is all your fault.”

Ricky writes and stars in the Netflix show, which first hit our screens in 2019.

He plays widower Tony who is trying to navigate life after the death of his wife, supported by friends, family, and his loyal pooch.

Fans previously revealed that they "couldn't stop crying" just five minutes into series two, with Ricky himself finding the scenes emotional to film - meaning that he could do them in just one take.

He told The Sun Online: "They're not that hard for me, if I feel it, if I mean it, if it feels real I can cry, just once and then you feel better, so they're all one take."

The star recently joked on Twitter about his success: "The better it goes down the worst it is for me, you can do something f***ing amazing, and everyone goes: 'Oh god, it's the best thing ever, 10/10'.

"But if you do something else that is 9.5/10 people are like: 'It's f***ing awful, this is the worst show on television'. So that's what goes through my mind."
