GOODBYE KYLE

Hollyoaks’ Kyle Kelly will spend ‘perfect day’ with Nancy before taking his own life in heartbreaking special episode

HOLLYOAKS' Kyle Kelly will spend a "perfect day" with Nancy before taking his own life in a heartbreaking special episode.

The Channel 4 soap confirmed Adam Rickitt - who plays Kyle - has left the show and so the soap will be exploring the topic of male suicide for his exit storyline.

This comes as Kyle continues to struggle with his mental health and drug addiction - and just weeks after he talked friend Darren down from a ledge.

Nancy gave Kyle an ultimatum: he needed to choose her or continue his drug use.

Kyle rejected Nancy at first, but on Tuesday's (June 2) Hollyoaks E4 first look episode, Kyle begged her for another chance to save their relationship.

Nancy then tells Kyle she thinks the family are better off without him.

Then in Monday's (June 8) episode, Kyle will take Nancy out for the perfect day out as they try to rebuild their relationship, including a romantic meal at The Hutch.

However, things go south when Nancy leaves. Kyle then brings out Oscar's family tree and closes all the blinds.

Kyle's death will not be shown on screen, with the show focusing on the aftermath.

Friends and family will be devastated by the news as the struggle with his death following a long-running struggle with depression.

Hollyoaks have worked with the Samaritans, Mind and local charity James' Place to create the story.

Speaking ahead of the episode, Adam Rickitt said: "When I first heard about the storyline, I was excited as an actor to be able to portray such a dramatic journey, and [proud] that the team had entrusted me to do it. There was also a sense of personal fear.

"Like all too many, I had to walk a similar path in my lifetime and the idea of revisiting that, even in the world of fiction, was slightly daunting.

"In truth, though, it became an incredibly empowering experience. The sensitivity and heart that the writers put into the story really shone through, and at a time like now, more than ever, I think we need to be highlighting just this sort of issue."

He added: "As sad as I am to say goodbye to Kyle, I have loved being a part of Hollyoaks.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.

It doesn't discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society - from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It's the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it's rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You're Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let's all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others.

You're Not Alone.

If you, or anyone you know, needs help dealing with mental health problems, the following organisations provide support:

  • CALM, , 0800 585 858
  • Heads Together,
  • Mind, , 0300 123 3393
  • Papyrus,, 0800 068 41 41
  • Samaritans, , 116 123

"It's been a fantastic show to work on. To be able to leave telling a story that is so important and so challenging is more than I could ever have asked for, and like me, I hope viewers will find strength in its telling."

Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood said: "Hollyoaks' writing team have been laying the building blocks of Darren and Kyle's individual stories for some time, carefully exploring the nuances that comes from two men living with depression in two very different ways."
