As lockdown restrictions have begun to ease, the first big changes are the reopening of schools, as well as gatherings of six people now being allowed.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 are expected to return to school on Monday June 1, while secondary schools will welcome back some year 10 and year 12 students from June 15.

Love Island 2016 winner Cara De La Hoyde shared an adorable photo of her son, Fred, two, with her 1.1m Instagram followers on his first day back to school.

She wrote: “Back to school for my little man today 📚 Whatever people’s stance on sending them or not it’s a hard decision for us all 👍🏼 So let’s all stick together no matter how we feel about it and do what’s right for our own families ❤️ "

Big Brother star Imogen Thomas also revealed that her youngest daughter Sierra, two, was also going back to school today and had been up since 6.30am because she was so excited.

Sharing a cute snap of her in uniform to her Instagram Stories, the 37-year-old wrote: “Sieras first day back in nursery. She’s so excited. Looking forward to her having a little bit of routine. She’s missed her friends.”

Going back to school has been a contentious subject for many parents and data suggests 1 million pupils were kept home today by parents – with many still concerned about health risks.

According to the National Foundation for Educational Research, heads in England are expecting nearly half (46%) of families to keep their children at home.

Dad-of-four, Peter Andre revealed he and his wife Emily had clashed over the decision to send their eldest child Amelia, six, back to school.

Now, the singer has told The Sun that he is ready to pull six-year-old Millie - who is set to return tomorrow - out if he sees anything go wrong.

He said: "Millie was meant to start school on Monday but they've had to do staggered starts, so they officially start tomorrow.

"I'm still very anxious about it and I'm still 100% not happy about it. I feel that I have to compromise with Emily on this.

It's not necessarily something I would do if the choice was solely down to me and I'm secretly very happy J and P are not going to back to school."

Pete added: "I'm very anxious about Millie going back to school, but I'm going to do it. If I see any sign at all of anything remotely going wrong, she's out. What I'm hoping is that Emily's advice is the right advice.

"We have definitely not agreed on this, but I am willing to compromise because I feel that in this situation, she knows better than me. It's not because my wife says so and that's what I want to do. As a doctor, I have to take her opinion seriously."

Christine McGuinness, 32, also revealed that she and husband Paddy were sending their twins back to school and that it had been a tough decision.

Life with the Andres: Episode Three

The Real Housewives of Cheshire star has been open about how the twins, six-year-olds Leo and Penelope who both have autism, have struggled with the lack of routine during lockdown.

The blonde beauty wrote on Instagram: “Back to school 🙌😁😭😴😠🤣😆

“It’s safe to say we have had a mixture of emotions the last couple of days, mainly from me 😂 but mostly good!

“It’s a personal choice sending your children back to school and not an easy one to make. We’re testing it out taking things one day at a time. Trying just a couple of hours, seeing if the twins are happier and more settled with some routine back and if they can do school life safely then that’s we will do!

“Ultimately I just want them to be happy and safe, which I feel they are ❤️ We haven’t heard anything from nursery for our youngest yet, I have no idea if/when they will open.
And honestly she is struggling so much, I can’t wait to get her back in for her well being although I’m preparing for a difficult time settling her again 😔”
