From weight loss to surgery and marriage splits, the X Factor’s biggest transformations
LAST week, Lucy Spraggan wowed fans when she showed off her jaw-dropping weight loss as she celebrated 10 months sober.
The 28-year-old singer showed off a rippling six-pack, toned arms, and an all-round trim figure on her social media page.
Lucy was almost completely unrecognisable from her X Factor days, with the star shooting to fame after auditioning with an original song on the 2012 series of the show.
Back in April, the star revealed that she had been hitting the gym and ditching booze in order to shed the pounds.
Her image overhaul came just six months after she announced her split from wife Georgina Gordon after six years together.
However, she is far from the only X Factor star to undergo a huge transformation since their audition – with these hopefuls also enjoying a lifestyle overhaul, from weight loss to surgery to marriage splits.
Chloe Mafia
Now known as Chloe Khan, Chlo appeared on The X Factor in 2010, getting through to the Boot Camp stage of the show before being kicked off after pulling an all-nighter to party and turning up “smelling like vodka”.
She went on to feature in Playboy magazine and even take part in Celebrity Big Brother after she ditched the fake tan and hair extensions for a sleek new look.
Chloe is also no stranger to cosmetic surgery, and previously opened up about a botched nose job that lost her sense of smell – and forced her to tape down her nose “to stop it from falling off”.
She went on to have corrective rhinoplasty, and has also had a boob job, lip enlargement, and bum enlargement over the years.
Ray Quinn
Ray was just 18 when he came second to Leona Lewis in the 2006 series, and won over fans with his innocent image while crooning in suits.
In the years that followed, Ray overhauled his image entirely – shocking fans when he was unveiled as a muscular, heavily-inked hunk in 2016.
The star admitted to hitting the gym after his confidence was knocked when Sony dropped him from their record label in 2007.
The collapse of his marriage to ex-wife Emma Stephens also encouraged him to embrace a new fitness regime – resulting in his rock-hard abs.
Katie Waissel
Katie is another former X Factor star whose relationship woes triggered a huge transformation, with the singer left heartbroken when she split with the father of her child, Andy Speer, shortly after giving birth in 2018.
In 2010, Katie was famed for her edgy ’80s inspired style and wild lifestyle – marrying model Brad Alphonso in 2012 and divorcing that same year.
She married for a second time in 2015, and previously opened up about spiralling into depression, drinking too much, and gaining weight after husband Brian Moote allegedly cheated on her.
Admitting that she gorges on high-calorie food and wine when she is struggling mentally, Katie’s weight has fluctuated over the years but last month she proudly showed off her toned figure on social media following her latest heartache.
Cher Lloyd
While marriage proved devastating for Katie and Ray, Cher’s 2013 nuptials to husband Craig Monk seemed to do her a world of good and the pair welcomed daughter Delilah-Rae in 2018.
She tied the knot just three years after finding fame on The X Factor, where she wowed fans with her street style.
Cher auditioned in ripped camo jeans, stiletto boots, and plenty of bling, but after becoming a wife she muted her image and debuted a more sophisticated look.
The star’s makeover saw her get compared to former mentor Cheryl, who she was previously embroiled in a very public feud with.
Christoper Maloney
Christopher rose to fame when he appeared on The X Factor in 2012, going on to enjoy a stint in Celebrity Big Brother where he played a key role in the iconic ‘David’s Dead’ blunder.
In 2015, Chris revealed he’d spent £70,000 on plastic surgery, including a nose job, hair transplant, eye lift and teeth veneers.
Just two years later, he flew to Poland and spent another £100,000 on more surgery, followed by a sixth nose job and another eye lift in 2018.
James Arthur
James also appeared in the 2012 series, but he went on to win the show after being mentored by Nicole Scherzinger.
He recently confessed that he had struggled to watch back his journey until recently as he couldn’t “look beyond the teeth and the naughty haircuts” before.
The singer has always been open about getting a nose job after “getting into too many scuffles as a teen”, and has also lost weight, had his teeth fixed and undergone laser surgery to remove tattoos from his hands.
Rylan Clark-Neal
The third shock transformation from 2012 comes courtesy of much-loved presenter Rylan, who owes his impressive fame to a stint on the singing competition.
It’s safe to say that the TV favourite is unrecognisable from when he first auditioned, with the star donning shoulder-length blond hair at the time.
He had ditched the bleach by the time the live shows came around, and recently admitted to The Sun that he’s no stranger to surgery having had “bits and bobs done over the years”.
Rylan has also been open about spending over £25,000 on veneers for his teeth, which he called “the best and worst decision of my life”.
Emma Chawner
Last year, Emma proudly showed off her staggering 12-stone weight loss, over a decade after Simon Cowell called her a “flump” when she auditioned for the 2007 series of the show.
Having ditched the crisps, cakes and biscuits and guzzled down water, she’s gone from 28st to 15st 9lb in just two years.
After appearing on The X Factor, Emma, her sister, and her parents appeared on Lorraine Kelly’s Big Fat Challenge as they vowed to lose weight as a family.
Emma did lose more than four stone during her time on the show, going from 18 stone to 14 stone, but the she struggled to keep the weight off at the time.
