Lucifer’s Tom Ellis ‘signs up for season 6 with Netflix after lengthy and difficult negotiations’

LUCIFER's Tom Ellis has signed up for season 6 after some lengthy and difficult discussions with Netflix.

Previously, it was announced that the show’s fifth series would be its last, but Ellis’ new contract paved the way for the streaming service to renew the crime-drama for another gripping batch of episodes.

Deadline reported that discussions started earlier this year between the giant streaming platform and Warner Bros TV to extend Lucifer beyond five seasons.

Although discussions were quite challenging and took place over a long period of time, the Miranda is on the books for season 6 along with the rest of the main cast.

Executive producers Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have signed new deals and will be part of production for season six.

Adapted from the comic book of the same name by Neil Gaiman, Lucifer follows the Prince of Darkness as he leaves Hell to live in the completely environment of Los Angeles and assist the police in solving crimes.

Lucifer was originally broadcast on Fox and lasted three seasons before it was cancelled.

However, Netflix saved the day and resurrected the drama after a successful campaign by fans who pleaded for it to return.

Ellis, 41, stars in the urban fantasy series alongside Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro and DB Woodside

Production on its fifth season was recently halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Before series 6 of Lucifer was confirmed, back in March one of the show's crew members appeared to accidentally announce it beforehand.

The production member who posted the photo, Katrina Gould, posed alongside Tom Ellis (Lucifer Morningstar), who was wearing a bright blue suit.

Ellis donned similar attire to his on-screen alter ego, the Prince of Darkness.

The caption read: "Getting to work another season of Lucifer with  was a dream come true! It’s a bummer the world has gone crazy and we couldn’t end it the way it should’ve been ended, but there is always next season!’’
