THE series finale of How To Get Away With Murder had no shortage of surprises.
In the tense episode, Annalise (Viola Davis) received a not guilty verdict, Tegan (Amirah Vann) deckared his love for Annalise, Connor (Jack Falahee) was sent to jail and called for a divorce, Frank (Charlie Weber) and Bonnie (Liza Weil) faced death.
Elsewhere, it was revealed that the shot of Annalise's funeral that sent fans reeling was actually set years in the future with Christopher in attendance, not Wes as first assumed.
With all of the shocking twists happening in the final hour of the season, the cast themselves had mixed feelings about the ending.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Amirah Vann talked about Tegan being in love with Annalise.
"I found out when Tegan found out, there was that connection," she explained.
''That fondness and respect and admiration. It switches over so beautifully; this could be someone I love working with and to watch it blossom and not know where it could potentially go was exciting and true. She wanted that friendship."
She continued: "This was someone who really challenged her and then realised maybe it's more than that. I think that's a surprise to Tegan as well.
"It's really satisfying to get to say those words and connect with her and say maybe there's hope."
Liza Weil's character Bonnie is ultimately killed off and she admitted she was seriously surprised by the turn of events.
"It was surprising for me to see what got people at the table read, I was sitting across from Jack [Falahee] when Bonnie has her final scene, and I could see that it got to him, which was really surprising and beautiful that it resonates," she went on.
"I was surprised how potent that device is," she added. "It works every time, being able to see the characters in the future."
Falahee plays Connor, whose marriage woes are the least of his problems when he goes to jail. But his heart was broken by his co-star's subsequent departure.
"I wasn't so much surprised, but the thing that I was the most heartbroken about was Bonnie and Frank. That was like a real gut punch," he confessed.
He added: "I was surprised that Michaela is elsewhere at the end. That surprised me. But also true to the promise that she makes in the present-day finale."
The return of Wes (Alfred Enoch) also gave the cast a pleasant surprised with Aja Naomi King, who plays Micheala, branding the move 'perfect' and 'delicious' for viewers.
