HARLEY Quinn boss has revealed Kaley Cuoco was perfect casting as she 'goes nuts' during recording.
The former Big Bang Theory star's enthusiasm about the character confirmed to producer Patrick Schumacker she was the best person to voice the supervillian in the adult animated TV series.
The showrunner, who has also worked on other programmes including Powerless (2017) and Surviving Jack (2014), knew that Kaley had the right attitude to perfect the role.
He told <a href="//www.radiotimes.com/news/2020-05-07/harley-quinn-tv-series-"Most of [the meeting] was just how excited Kaley was at the opportunity to do this departure from The Big Bang Theory, where she was this very nice mid-western girl, to be this supervillain and to do this kind of comedy by way of Quentin Tarantino, in terms of the violence at least.
"It was clear that she would be able to capture Harley's manic quality… I think Kaley was so on board with going nuts in the recording booth, maybe it was cathartic for her or something."
The role of Harley Quinn is one of Kaley's first major projects since the award-winning series ended last year.
Determined to make a mark, the actress opted for a more generic American accent, instead of sticking with Harley's very distinct New York accent.
He added: "To her credit too, when we were trying to find the voice of the character, she went back and rerecorded entire episodes to get it right.
"She's so enthusiastic about this character. It was a cool departure from the stuff she had been doing for 12 years.
"As great as that was, 12 years is a long time, and this was a chance to pivot to something different, and I think she really seized that opportunity."
Kaley, who voices the anti-hero in the programme, recently revealed that Harley Quinn 'is gonna need calamine lotion' after her lesbian romps with Poison Ivy in the second season.
The episodes see Harley and her BFF become more than friends, and appearing on US chat show Conan via video link, Kaley couldn't help but make a crude joke about their relationship.
The 34-year-old quipped: "Let me put it this way: Harley’s gonna need some calamine lotion.
She added: "That was a funny joke! I just thought of that off the top of my head."
In case her joke needs explaining, calamine lotion is used to treat the effects or symptoms of poison ivy.
The lesbian romance was first teased in a trailer for the second season, Patrick confirmed it earlier this month.
Speaking to , he said: "It will develop more, and it’s definitely going to evolve into, I think, what a lot of people are hoping it will.
"What I can say is, we wanted to do it – it was always on the table. It’s something that had been done in the comments.
"It felt interesting to us or felt like, maybe even important to us, to do it."
Last month the Big Bang Theory favourite announced the great news that she will be starring a new Hollywood blockbuster -Man From Toronto - alongside Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson.
She took to Instagram to express her excitement over the project and wrote: "In a time where things feel uncertain, this kind of news makes me feel incredibly grateful and elated! Am I dreaming?"
