Why is Have I Got News for You on a Thursday and who’s on the panel tonight?

DAVID Tennant will host the satirical current affairs quiz tonight, with comedy actor Chris McCausland and broadcaster and journalist Ayesha Hazarika joining team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton to make fun of this week's events.

Due to social distancing the show will take place in the homes of the guest via video calling.

Why is Have I Got News For You in a Thursday?

Tomorrow (Friday May 8) is VE Day, which stands for Victory in Europe and celebrates Germany's surrender in the Second World War.

The main TV networks will be broadcasting a special range of programmes to mark this significant date in history.

At 9.10pm - when Have I Got News For You would normally be on - BBC One will be airing VE Day: Remembering Victory.

The documentary was first aired in 2015 and is narrated by Julie Walters, while David Attenborough and other national treasures reflect on the date.

Ayesha Hazarika

Ayesha is a Scottish broadcaster, journalist and political commentator.

She used to be a political adviser to senior Labour Party politicians.

Ayesha tweeted yesterday she'd spent the day recording the show socially-distanced as it can't be filmed with a studio audience.

Chris McCausland

Chris is a stand-up comedian and actor.

He's appeared on Live At The Apollo, Would I Lie To You? and normally tours comedy venues, including London's The Comedy Store.

Due to retinitis pigmentosa, a rare genetic disorder, he is blind.

Ian Hislop

Ian Hislop was born on July 13 1960. He is a British journalist, satirist, writer, broadcaster and editor of the magazine Private Eye. As well as being a team captain on Have I Got News For You, Ian is well know for appearing on radio and television programmes to voice his opinion.

Paul Merton

Paul Merton was born July 9 1957.

He is an English writer, actor, comedian, radio and television presenter.

As well as being team captain on Have I Got News For You, he was also on Room 101 and Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Paul also appears as a panellist on Radio 4's Just a Minute.

David Tennant will be hosting tonight's episode.

Have I Got News For You is a comedy quiz show that gets celebrities to come on the panels and go head-to-head as they discuss the news.
