Coronation Street’s Sue Cleaver reveals she was knocked out cold on set in fight blunder
CORONATION Street star Sue Cleaver has revealed she was once knocked out on set after a co-star accidentally punched her.
The actress - who plays Eileen Grimshaw in the ITV soap - was filming with Judy Holt when she misjudged a punch and hit Sue in the face.
The incident took place in Eileen's kitchen in 2012.
Sue told : “Judy’s character had Alzheimer’s. She punched me, misjudged it and I got knocked out cold on the floor.
“I had to visit the hospital to get checked out – she was mortified. When it went out on screen they used the real sound from the punch on the show.”
Judy previously played Lesley - wife of Eileen’s firefighter boyfriend Paul Kershaw.
Sue - who joined the cobbles in 2000 - later admitted she had only planned to stay on the soap for a year.
She added: "I originally said I’d stay about a year, but the place is so seductive. Everybody knows an Eileen. She’s every woman, she’s down to earth, level-headed and loyal.
"She’s a great friend, but cr*p at everything else.”
The star is currently on a break from playing the cab caller amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

She recently revealed she had dyed her hair pink as she made the most of her time off.
Posting a snap of her new hair on Instagram, she said: "As Eileen is locked in the prop cupboard for the foreseeable thought I’d dabble with the hair dye."
