Blood season 3: Will there be a third series on Channel 5?
BLOOD season two has barely got out of the starting blocks and already fans are begging for a third series.
The Channel 5 show first aired in 2018 before running to the small screen for its second instalment in 2020.
The show is set in rural Ireland and follows Cat Hogan, a woman who returns home to Ireland after her mother dies by falling and hitting her head on a rock.
Cat experiences flashbacks to her childhood and is haunted by the feeling that something isn't right - she thinks her father has something to do with her mother's demise.
Will there be a third series of Blood?
With many questions still left unanswered, fans are after another instalment of the gripping drama.
Creator Sophie Petzal told she would “absolutely love” to return with Blood season three.
She said: “Could we be bleeding forever? Never say never. Whatever uncertainty there usually is around commissioning and recommissioning television in general, there’s sort of thrice that uncertainty with everything going on.
“I’m currently writing a show that has just been green-lit for ITV called Hollington Drive, so that’s happening in between, but as for Blood season three, we absolutely love this series and we love this cast. We’re always having ideas and discussing them about how this could continue.
“Never say never, and let’s see which way the world turns and who wants what, but absolutely I’d love to. We’ll see.”
The second series of Blood aired on Channel 5 around 17 months after the first, so season three can be expected around autumn/winter 2021.
However, the current hiatus in TV production caused by the coronavirus pandemic could have a knock-on effect which leads to any filming being postponed, as cast members and production staff will be tied up in other projects.
Channel 5 have been moving into the original drama TV sphere with Blood and other dramas like 15 Days and Penance, meaning they'll probably want to keep the fascination around Blood going for at least a third series.
