Steph McGovern halts her Channel 4 chat show after angry neighbours complain
STEPH McGovern has decided to halt filming her Channel 4 talk show, admitting she didn't expect the lockdown to "go on this long".
The Steph Show has been airing from her home in Yorkshire in recent weeks, with guests appearing via video call and cameras taking over the property.
However, she took to Twitter on Tuesday to admit that her family needs their "home back" and said that the programme will relaunch "when the Leeds studio is sorted".
She joked: "I may still be wearing slippers."
"As much as I’ve loved doing a lockdown show at home I never expected it to go on this long," the former BBC Breakfast presenter tweeted.
"We’ve decided it’s time to have a break and give my family our home back. The proper prog will be launching when the Leeds studio is sorted, I may still be wearing slippers."
"The last locked down version of #TheStephShow will be next Thurs 7th May," she revealed.
"Then the plan is to launch again at our fancy studios at Leeds Docks in a couple of months, once they’re safely up and running."
The decision also comes after the move to turn her home into a makeshift TV studio was revealed to be less popular with her neighbours in the upmarket Yorkshire town of Harrogate — who have been unimpressed by her keep calm and carry on spirit.
The Sun exclusively revealed in mid-April that the production equipment parked outside and the steady flow of deliveries for The Steph Show had gone down badly, and that fed up fellow residents have written to the former BBC host urging her to take her show elsewhere.
A source said: “This seemed a good move to get the new show on air as planned. But unfortunately it has now gone on for some time and neighbours are getting increasingly irritable.
"The thought of this carrying on for many more weeks has been too much for them to accept.”
C4 were hoping the daytime talk show, which launched on March 30, would rival ITV, but it faces an uphill battle with just 234,000 viewers tuning in for the debut episode.
