Jamie Oliver plans six-figure revamp on £6m home after restaurant chain collapses
CHEF Jamie Oliver is planning a six-figure revamp of his £6million home, less than a year after his restaurant chain collapsed.
Jamie, 44, is said to be looking to make several changes, such as automatic gates, a new drive and upgrades to his oak-panelled library within in the Tudor mansion.
The TV chef - whose restaurant chain collapsed last year with the loss of 1,000 jobs - has brought in a top planning consultancy to lodge an application for the work to be carried out.
The property, which is known as Spains Hall, is located near Braintree in Essex.
The plans, which are expected to cost a six-figure sum to carry out, would see new automatic ornamental iron gates fitted at the 250-metre long driveway of the sprawling family estate.
An application went to Braintree Council, Essex, earlier this month after dad-of-five Jamie and wife Jools, 45, bought the 12-bed 16th Century Grade-I listed home in 2018.
That same year, the couple had taken £5.2 million in dividends from the company despite being hit by £9.8 million in costs.
Jamie's restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy protection, partly due to increased competition and escalating rents in local commercial districts.
At the time Jamie tweeted: "I'm devastated that our much-loved U.K. restaurants have gone into administration.
"I am deeply saddened by this outcome and would like to thank all of the staff and our suppliers who have put their hearts and souls into this business over the years."
Jamie, Jools, and their brood are currently isolating at the stunning property due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
We told last June how the couple lodged plans for thousands of pounds of renovation work - including having under-floor heating installed in the pantry - two weeks after the restaurant claim collapsed.
A source said: “People will be surprised more work is planned.”
Jamie, currently starring in Channel 4 show Keep Cooking and Carry On from his home, also wants to resurface the entrance area with gravel.
