PETER Kay joined a host of showbiz stars for BBC's The Big Night In, a collaborative charity event between Comic Relief and Children In Need.

Viewers were treated to an unforgettable night of entertainment - all while raising £27,398,675 for the vulnerable.

And it all kicked off with the return of Miranda.

The loved character - played by Miranda Hart - opened the show with a string of hilarious past clips.

Tom Ellis, Sarah Hadland and Patricia Hodge also made an appearance.

Fans went crazy over the scene, with one writing: "15 minutes in and @mermhart has me in tears."

Another wrote: "Note to self don’t take a drink when Maranda is on the TV. Diet Coke gone everywhere."

And the laughs didn't stop there as Catherine Tate brought loud-mouthed teenager Lauren back for the TV event.

Fans were overjoyed to see her reunited with David Tennant, who played Mr Logan.

One said: "catherine tate is one of the few comedians that actually can make me laugh out loud and she always does."

A  second agreed: "The Lauren sketch by Catherine Tate was EVERYTHING."

Elsewhere, Jack Whitehall provided some laughs as he tried to bench press with the help of boxing champ Anthony Joshua.

The comedian played his Bad Education alter-ego Alfie Vickers for the sketch, which ended with him collapsing with the weights over his chest.

Meanwhile, Dawn French brought a one-off special of her much TV show The Vicar of Dibley.

The loved character returned to TV for the first time in 22 years.

Peter Kay was also on top form as he presented an updated version of (Is This The Way To) Amarillo from his back garden.

Viewers were delighted as Peter appeared in a Hawaiian shirt eating a Solero in his back garden before he presented the performance.

One wrote: "How amazing to see #PeterKay Literally made these last 4 weeks so much better. The nation loves you."

The show also saw legendary comedy duo Matt Lucas and David Walliams return to TV for the first time in more than decade for a side-splitting new sketch of Little Britain.

The pair wore homemade costumes as they took on their iconic BBC characters once again.

Fitness guru Joe Wicks left viewers in stitches as he played a lazy, out of breath PE teacher in a hilarious segment, while the EastEnders cast treated fans to a virtual pub quiz.

The show gathered an impressive list of stars including presenters Lenny HenryDavina McCallZoe BallMatt Baker and Paddy McGuinness.

Lenny, who has been a long time host of Comic Relief, said the show will "shine a light on the amazing things communities are doing and keep you entertained whilst you can’t leave your homes".

Davina also added that it was "an amazing way for us all to come together and show how much of an impact we can make on the lives of those who need our support".
