Star Wars producing another Disney+ spin-off series with female lead following huge success of The Mandalorian
STAR Wars is expanding the franchise once again with a new female-lead Disney+ series following the success of The Mandalorian.
The show has been a huge hit on the new streaming platform and is scheduled to release its second series in October.
While a third series of The Mandalorian is in the works, the co-creator of Netflix series Russian Doll Leslye Headland is starting to lay the groundwork for another new show.
According to Variety, the 39-year-old is currently assembling a writing team and is figuring out how the new series will take shape.
There is no word on what the plot will be as it is still very early days for the show.
However, it was confirmed that the story is female-centric and will take place in a different part of the Star Wars timeline than other films and series.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it is very difficult to predict when the show will make it's debut on Disney+.
Headland co-created, co-wrote and directed episodes of Russian Doll, which has been very successful on Netflix, and was renewed for a second series as a result.
She's also directed films such as Bacherlorette and Sleeping With Other People and has shows such as Black Monday and Terriers on her TV CV.
Her most recent work came on FOX drama Almost Family, which aired from October 2019-February 2020, but was cancelled after the first series.
MORE ON STAR WARS
Star Wars fans have something to look forward to next month as Disney+ will launch a docu-series about the making of The Mandalorian to keep fans happy before the release of the second season.
The launch of the popular show's second season is a long way off, so Disney+ decided to drop the eight part behind the scenes series.
Set to debut on Star Wars Day (May 4), Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will be led by executive producer, writer and series two director Jon Favreau.
The docu-series pulls back the curtain on The Mandalorian and each chapter will explore a different facet of the first live-action Star Wars television show through interviews, never-before-seen footage, and roundtable conversations hosted by the showrunner.
