Quiz star Charles Ingram will be found innocent by viewers after tonight’s final episode his lawyer predicts
QUIZ stars Charles and Diana Ingram's lawyer has predicted viewers will be convinced the pair are innocent after tonight's episode.
The disgraced former army Major was convicted of cheating his way to the £1million prize on ITV's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in 2001 by listening to a series of coughs from the audience.
Many viewers think the pair, played by Matthew Macfadyen and Sian Clifford, are "guilty as sin" after the first two episodes showed the moment he clinched the jackpot with a question about a "Googol".
But, appearing on This Morning today, their solicitor Rhona Friedman predicted there would be a dramatic change of opinion once viewers see evidence presented at the pair's trial tonight in the dramatisation.
Speaking from her London home, she said: "Episode three tonight - if people have got to the position after episode two that they think: 'These three are pretty much bang to rights, there's somethign very dodgy doing on.
"I think a lot of pepople will change their mind after episode three and I think that's a great fillip to Charles and Diana and Tecwin Whittock [their co-defendent] and his family.
"Lawyers like to feel there is a momentum behind them and think there might be something wrong with the conviction."
This Morning today aired an awkward interview between Charles and Diana Ingram and a young Phillip Schofield, alongside his then-co-host Fern Britton when the pair appeared on the show.
Quiz has been a smash hit for the channel, with many praising Michael Sheen for his "perfect" performance as former Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? host Chris Tarrant.
Charles was accused of relying on coughs from fellow contestant Tecwen Whittock and his wife Diana to bag the one million pound prize - but his erratic answers raised suspicions on the show.
