Only Fools and Horses’ David Jason launches ‘with trigger’s broom, we’ll beat it soon’ slogan in fight against Covid-19
TV’s Del Boy issued a rallying cry against coronavirus, insisting: “With Trigger’s broom, we’ll beat this soon.”
Sir David Jason, 80, came up with the slogan to help people remember social distancing rules.
The Only Fools and Horses legend was inspired by the , played by the late Roger Lloyd-Pack.
He aired his idea in a YouTube video for his fans, offering “some moral support in these very difficult and trying times”.
Sir David urged them to imagine holding Trigger’s broom out at arm’s length — approx 9ft.
He added: “If anybody comes within that distance, it’s Trigger’s broom! You just say, ‘Trigger’s.’ Or you could just say, ‘Broom.’
“And if somebody says, ‘Sorry, I don’t understand what you’re talking about.’’
“Then you can explain it, and once you have explained it, you might have made a new friend, you never know.
“Anyway, keep your peckers up, it won’t be long now.
“Remember, with Trigger’s broom we’ll beat this soon. OK, good luck.”
The Government says if people must go out, they should stay more than 2m (6ft) from anyone other than members of their household.
Sir David played wheeler dealer Derek “Del Boy” Trotter between 1981 until 2003.
