CHARLOTTE Church thought she had hit the jackpot with her ‘phone-a-friend’ choice of The Chase’s Mark Labbett, but the clever clogs didn’t know the answer when she called for help.
He’s made a name for himself being fearsomely intelligent and a quiz show extraordinaire, however The Beast came undone with a tricky question from his pal.
The Welsh singer called upon Mark 'The Beast' Labbett for her ‘phone-a-friend’ during Sunday night's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire Celebrity Edition thinking he would be able to help with a tricky question.
The 34-year-old found herself stuck when asked: “Which of these publications was discontinued in print in 2019?”
The options were: A) Argos catalogue B) The Independent C) Yellow Pages or D) Beano.
Unsure, Charlotte decided to call her ‘phone-a-friend’ person, Mark – causing Jeremy to sense something was up. “This isn’t Mark from The Chase?,” he asked her. “That’s quite clever!”
Charlotte replied: “My mum used to own a pub in Cardiff called the Robin Hood and he used to come down to the quiz nights there.
“He then became friendly with my family. I used to pop into the pub on a Thursday every now and again in my early-to-mid-twenties, and joined in the quiz with him a number of times.
“When I got asked to do the show, I knew exactly who my phone a friend would be!”
However, despite being a clever idea it backfired when the 54-year-old admitted he didn't actually know the answer, guessing it was Yellow Pages, believing the others were “still around”.

The former classical singer, who is pregnant with her third child, went on to use her 50/50 lifeline, which eliminated the Beano and Argos catalogue, leaving the Independent and Yellow Pages.
Charlotte went on to win £32,000 for her chosen charities – The Awen Project, which the singer set up to help establish independent schools, and The Safe Foundation, a charity encouraging local projects in the developing world.
