Victoria Beckham sues firm that fitted out her flagship shop for ‘putting customers in danger’
VICTORIA Beckham is suing a firm that fitted out her flagship clothes store — claiming it put customers in danger.
The fashion designer’s lawyers have lodged a £1million claim against NJ Richards over work in London’s Mayfair.
Victoria, 45, claims she had to close the store after a steel panel fell to the floor. It is said emergency work had to be carried out “to protect the safety of occupants”.
Victoria Beckham Ltd is claiming over £800,000 in damages. Costs and interest could take the case over £1million.
Legal papers state: “The Claimant claims the defendant acted in breach of its obligations and/or warranties in the respect of the refurbishment and fit out of the Claimant’s store located at 36 Dover Street, London.”
Papers were lodged at the High Court in March. NJ Richards said: “We are aware of an unproven claim that is being dealt with by our insurers.”
The job included designing and installing a feature steel staircase and concrete cladding, putting in polished concrete floors and a feature Rimex ceiling.
It also included carpentry, designing and installing a mirrored cladding system, putting in the lighting system and decoration.
Victoria Beckham Limited’s claim alleges that NJR – which has worked for Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Fendi in Selfridge’s, London – breached its duty of care, leading to “defects and failures”.
