Some of Little Britain’s most controversial characters are being axed for the new episodes to avoid causing offence
SOME of the most controversial Little Britain characters are being binned for new episodes.
Star and writer Matt Lucas says he is keen not to cause offence.
Among those characters who could be axed are racist weight loss coach Marjorie Dawes, the xenophobic homophobe Maggie Blackamoor and Thai bride Ting Tong.
Matt, 46, said: “We need to sit down and work out who we are bringing back and who we aren’t.
“I think the reason the show was successful is because it reflected how we all were back when we made it, if we hadn’t have got that right it wouldn’t have been so popular.
“I think to make it successful today you’d have to reflect how we all are now.
“I think you definitely have a better chance of success if you are in sync with how people are at that time.”
Award-winning Little Britain — first aired in 2003 on BBC Three — was often criticised for its portrayal of minority groups.
Last month we revealed Matt and comedy partner David Walliams, 48, were in talks with Netflix over a £3million deal to make a new series.
Insiders said the offer was “more than double” what the BBC could give.
Matt has been unveiled as the replacement for host Sandi Toksvig, 61, on Channel 4’s Bake Off.
He has also been in discussions with David about Little Britain on stage.

Matt said: “It could be a stage show or series.
"David and I chat most days and we’re looking at all the ways to bring it back.”
