Homeland’s Claire Danes broke down in tears when she realised show was over filming last ever scene
HOMELAND'S Claire Danes broke down in tears when she realised the show was over while filming her last ever scene.
The 40-year-old actress has played CIA case officer Carrie Mathison in the hit Showtime spy thriller since it began in October 2011.
The show is now airing the last few episodes of the eighth and final season, and Claire has opened up about what it was like to film her last scenes as Carrie.
Speaking to about the moment, Claire revealed it was an intense scene with co-star Mandy Patinkin who plays Saul Berenson.
She said: "It’s not a casual scene. I think for me that was my cathartic moment when I realised it was over, because to say goodbye to it in its entirety is just too abstract and too huge.
"There were some tears – many of them – and we just hugged each other for a really long time.”
Saul has become a mentor and father figure for bipolar Carrie during the show's run, and Claire revealed she has as much chemistry with Mandy off-screen as she does on.
She said: "I think that’s a wonderful and surprising love story. It’s not one that we see depicted all that often in pop culture: mentor and mentee.
"In our first read-through the chemistry was really powerful and palpable.
"He looks uncannily like my best friend’s dad, who kind of raised me and is a wonderful person but, if [he] got mad at you, you felt pretty s****y.
