Netflix axes vampire series V Wars fronted by Ian Somerhalder after just one season
NETFLIX has cancelled Ian Somerhalder's V Wars after just one season.
The sci-fi drama starred Somerhalder as Dr. Luther Swann, a scientist who enters a world of untold horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend into a vampire-esque predator who feeds on other humans.
The disease continues to spread and more and more people are seemingly transformed.
With society fractured and people being divided into opposing camps, normal people are pitted against the growing number vampire-like creatures.
The series is based on the acclaimed novel of the same name.
Adrian Holmes (Arrow), Peter Outerbridge (The Umbrella Academy) and Kimberly-Sue Murray (Shadowhunters) also starred in V Wars.
Originally dropping in December last year, no reason has been given for the cancellation of the series.
The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report the cancellation and Netflix have refused to comment.
Somerhalder is well known for his role as Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries.
The Vampire Diaries was The CW's teen drama that ran for eight seasons, also starring Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley.
V Wars wasn't the only series to face the axe, as The October Faction is also reported to have got the same treatment.
The October Faction follows monster hunters who hid their professions as members of a covert syndicate while their teenage children were forced to live in a town in the past.
The series starred Hemlock Grove's JC MacKenzie and Bones' Tamara Taylor.
Season one of V Wars is available to stream on Netflix.
