But show bosses have since decided to delay production on the new series.

A source told the Sun Online: "The celebrities are gutted over the decision as they were set to begin filming abroad next month. It's really disappointing.

"It's a challenge of a lifetime, but they understand it's not worth the risk."

A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed: "Due to the current restrictions on travel the new series of Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls will be postponed.

"We’ve made this decision with the health and well-being of those involved in making the show as our upmost priority.”

The TV show previously saw the likes of Pete Wicks, Martin Kemp and Montana Brown left on an island to fend for themselves.

The decision comes days after the Sun revealed upcoming production on Love Island, Britain’s Got Talent and Bake Off has also been thrown into jeopardy.

Channel 4's Bake Off is facing the axe after Berkshire locals expressed virus fears.

An insider said: “Crunch talks about Bake Off this year are happening very soon.

“The last thing anyone wants to do is postpone the show, but in the current situation we may find there is just no other choice.”

The worsening coronavirus pandemic has so far claimed the lives of 1,019 people in the UK, with more than 17,000 confirmed cases across the country.
