The Walking Dead’s Michonne and Rick finally reunited with dark twist during trip to Virgil’s island
THE Walking Dead’s Michonne and Rick have finally reunited with a dark twist during a trip to Virgil’s island.
The latest episode of the hit AMC post-apocalyptic drama saw Michonne (Danai Gurira) finally find proof her long-term partner Rick Grimes survived the bridge explosion six years ago.
Michonne headed to Virgil's Island home in episode 13 where she has a trippy cup of tea which makes her hallucinate an alternate timeline.
In it, she joins the Saviours and becomes Negan's right-hand woman, even wielding Lucille in the season six finale after killing Glenn at the satellite outpost.
However she is eventually killed by Rick in the alternate universe before coming back to the present.
She suddenly discovers Rick's boots, before finding his phone, logbook and a drawing of her and Judith on a ship.
Michonne plans to return to Alexandria, but after speaking to her daughter Judith over the walkie talkie, she discovers Alpha is dead.
A tearful Judith encourages Michonne to continue on her journey to see if Rick really is alive.
The character then meets two survivors who beg for her help, as she debates what to do, she has a flashback to when she first met Rick and his son Carl in the prison and they agreed to help her.
With this in mind, she decides to do the right thing by the two survivors and help them catch up with a large army that could be seen marching away into the distance.
Fans have known Michonne would be leaving the show at some point this season, but its strongly believed she will reappear in the Rick Grimes trilogy of films which are currently planned.
Show boss Scott M.Gimple previously said of the big screen spin offs: "We’re going to proceed to inform Rick’s story, and we’re going to uncover a lot of the world by means of that story.
"It’s a lot bigger world than one which he had been working in, and that was difficult in and of itself. "Now issues are heightened, and simply as we’re going to the flicks — and it’s the films correct, suitably extensive display screen — we’re going to be filling that display screen with a model new world."
The Walking Dead continues on Sunday, March 29 in the US and airs the next day in the UK.
