Stranger Things fans call out major blunders with the gang’s BMX bikes and Max’s skateboard
STRANGER Things fans have called out two major blunders throughout the three current seasons of the show.
The producers of the popular Netflix series have won over fans with their gripping storylines in the show - but one eagle-eyed fan in particular isn't impressed with how historically inaccurate the character's props are.
The American sci-fi hit follows the adventures of Mike Wheeler, Eleven and their group of mates in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana.
The youngsters regularly use their bikes to get around and one Reddit user has pointed out a particular flaw with their choice of bike accessories.
The eagle-eyed fan wrote: "Overall, the directors and crew have been doing a phenomenal job capturing the look and feel of the 80s, but there are a few details from the skate/BMX side of things which are a bit off.
"In Season one Will, Lucas and Dustin all have proper BMX bikes.
"The kids aren't portrayed as hardcore BMXers, so I wouldn't expect them to be intimately familiar with how to trick out a BMX bike correctly…
"But there's no way Lucas would have a banana seat on his bike.”
So despite the old-school saddle being very popular in the time that the series is set in, only hard-core BMXers would have been bothered about them as a cool accessory.
They added: "This is probably more of a licensing/budget detail but the bikes would have had visible and recognizable logos on them for example Mongoose, Diamond Back or GT. In the BMX world, it well known that Kuwaharas were used in ET.”
But the Reddit user, who goes by the username of Croutonaccelerator, wasn't done there with pointing out blunders.
During a scene in season two Max, who is played by Sadie Sink, performed a skateboarding trick called an ollie - and apparently very few skaters would have performed this during the 1980s.
The avid skater said: “In Season two, there's a clip of Max practising ollies on her skateboard. While the ollie had been invented by this time, it was not popularized until another year or two later by Mark Gonzales.
“The ollie was probably the most influential skate trick in the 80s and it's still incredibly popular 3 decades later… but in 1984? Nope. Very few people were doing them, as in a handful.”
The posts were flooded with upvotes and messages of agreement, so clearly others clocked the issues too.
Elsewhere, the cast recently jetted off to New Mexico to film the latest season of the popular show.
Much of the first three seasons of the Netflix series were set in the fictional town of Hawkins, with filming taking place in Atlanta, Georgia.
However, it has now been confirmed that they are travelling out of state for production for the first time.
Patty Whitcher and Momita SenGupta – who are Stranger Things’ VPs of physical production – told : “Season four is bigger, bolder and more intricate than ever.
“So this is the first time the show will be travelling beyond Atlanta.”
When asked what specific storylines will be shot in New Mexico, SenGupta dodged the question, joking: “If I told you that, I would be disappearing into the Witness Protection Program.”
Last month, a first-look teaser trailer for the new season confirmed that Hawkins Sheriff Jim Hopper, played by David Harbour, was alive after being captured by Russians.
Unfortunately filming for Stranger Things season 4 has been halted given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
