The Hunt is an utterly dumb gorefest with razor-sharp observations

MUCH like last year’s Ready Or Not, The Hunt is a ludicrous and violent chase thriller.
It is released now after being pushed back in the wake of last year’s mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas.
Completely stupid and perplexing, it still gives a passable hour and a half – but will surely anger a lot of people.
The plot is simple, although it throws in a few interesting twists.
A group of liberal elites seek to rid the world of Trump Maga hat-wearing conspiracy theorists by dumping a dozen of them in a forest and picking them off in increasingly gruesome ways.
But what they don’t account for is badass Crystal (Glow’s Betty Gilpin) who decides she doesn’t fancy dying.
Co-written by Watchmen’s Damon Lindelof, this is just about the most unsubtle film I’ve seen in years.
It is simultaneously razor-sharp in its observations on woke culture and an utterly dumb gorefest.
It has a few great moments – it’s a while before you even know who you’re rooting for and why.
And it is full of twists and turns to make the time fly by.
But given its divisive nature, I found I didn’t really care who won or lost in the end.
