BBC1’s The Greatest Dancer faces the chop after just two series due to bad ratings
BBC 1’s The Greatest Dancer is facing the chop after just two series due to falling ratings.
The show, featuring Cheryl Tweedy and Oti Mabuse as “dance captains”, has struggled up against rival show The Voice in the Saturday night prime time battle.
It pulled in just 2.8million viewers for its final episode at the weekend — as ballroom and Latin dancers Michael and Jowita lifted the crown.
The programme was beaten by long-running BBC hospital drama Casualty and was down by more than a million.
Crew on the series, hosted by Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo, have been told not to expect future work on the show.
Beeb bosses will make a final decision on its future on Monday.
A source said: “Crew were warned weeks ago that it looked like there might not be a show next year so were told to look at alternative work for this time next year.
“The show has struggled in terms of ratings and all the talk is that it’s in trouble.”
The show was the first time Simon Cowell’s TV company Syco had worked with the BBC.

A Syco source added: “We will know either way by Monday.
“It’s still in the balance.”
A BBC spokeswoman said: “No decision has been made.”
