Kimberley Walsh hints Girls Aloud could tour in 2022 to celebrate their 20th anniversary
KIMBERLEY Walsh has hinted that Girls Aloud could tour in 2022 to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary.
Kimberley and her bandmates Cheryl, Nicola Roberts, Sarah Harding and Nadine Coyle previously reformed in 2012 for their tenth anniversary tour and Greatest Hits album.
But they announced their split just hours after their final gig at Liverpool's Echo Arena.
“We do have an anniversary coming up,” Kimberley admits.
“It will have been 20 years in 2022, it’s a long way off still.
“Everybody is busy at the moment, but I have a lot of love for all the girls, I’m proud of all of them.
“All the songs feel like a distant memory, but if I hear them then I think they’re good, I’m glad I still get to spend time with the girls and see them.
“Our outfits were racy, but we were girls’ girls and about looking glamorous and having something to aspire to.”
Rumours of a rift have dogged Girls Aloud since their split in 2013, with Nadine recently saying that reforming the girlband would be like “moving a mountain”.
But fellow bandmember Kimberley, 37, has revealed she recently reconciled with the I’m A Celeb star and a 20th anniversary reunion could be on the cards.
It comes after trio Kimberley, Cheryl, 36, and Nicola, 34, remained firm pals, with Nadine admitting in the jungle she hadn’t spoken to any of them in six years.
Meanwhile, Sarah, 38, has kept a low profile since her colourful Celebrity Big Brother stint in 2018.
Kimberley reveals: “I saw Nadine the other day in London and it was so nice to catch up with her, it’s been a while. We just bumped into each other at an event, it made me feel nostalgic.”
Indeed, the girlband, formed on ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, enjoyed huge success in the noughties, with 21 Top 10 singles, and two number one albums.
Kimberley’s standout moment in their 11-year reign was finally winning a Brit award in 2009 for British single The Promise, with Sarah famously bellowing, “It’s about time” onstage in the acceptance speech.
Kimberley recalls: “Winning the Brit was massive for us, because we had so much critical acclaim, but no award and then the public finally got the chance to vote and we were like, ‘yes’.”
