However, they have been struggling to have a baby for years but after a chance meeting with 18-year-old Kaya (Mirren Mack), their luck appears to change as she agrees to be their surrogate.

"I can change your life, and you can change mine" the teen says in the trailer, before Martin's character Dan reveals she is "fresh out of a children's home".

Kaya could have ulterior motives as her life on the other side of the city is far from comfortable, and the explosive trailer shows things certainly don't seem to go smoothly for the unlikely trio.

Dan certainly seems suspicious, telling wife Emily: "This lassie has keyed into you and you're not thinking straight."

Kaya is seen arriving at their incredible home, hardly believing her luck, before another male voice is heard saying: "Daniel Docherty he's called, minted. Owns half of Glasgow."

In another tense scene between Dan and Emily, he tells her: "She's got all the power, we've no choice but to trust her."

But a voice then ominously says: "The lassie's story does nae add up."

Kaya's voice then plays out as dramatic scenes flash on screen, saying: "D'You know that voice in your head? Well my one's saying, you can do this."

The trailer ends with Kaya screaming at a shocked Emily, leaving viewers wondering if any of them will get a happy ending or if it will all end in tears.

At the time of the show's announcement, which is produced by Studio Lambert, Martin - who plays DS Steve Arnott in Line of Duty - said: "I’m absolutely delighted to join the cast of The Nest.

"Nicole Taylor is one of the most exciting and original voices in writing today, I’m chuffed we’re finally working together.

"Combined with filming in Glasgow and going back onto BBC One in my native west coast accent makes it a dream scenario."

The Nest is coming soon to BBC One.
