When is Mulan released on Disney+ UK ?

THE hotly-anticipated Mulan will be dropping on Disney+ today (September 4) after being postponed thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

The film is a remake of the 1998 cartoon and will be bypassing a cinema release and landing on the streaming service at a premium of £19.99 for subscribers in what Disney have called a “one-off” plan.

When is Mulan out?

This classic tale is being re-told in a live-action remake.

It was due to be released on Disney Plus in the US and the UK on March 27, 2020, however due to the coronavirus outbreak the film was postponed.

The new release date is TODAY (September 4).

There will be a one off payment required to watch Mulan and you need to be signed up to the service to watch it.

In the UK it will cost you £19.99.

It’s also available in Ultra HD, HDR, and Dolby Audio.

The film will be available at no extra cost just three months after its original release, with Disney confirming it would be released to all Disney+ subscribers on December 4, 2020.

The movie runs for two hours and is rated a PG-13.

The film had a massive budget of $200million.

She cleverly impersonates a man and goes off to train with fellow recruits.

Accompanied by her dragon, Mushu (Eddie Murphy), she uses her smarts to help ward off a Hun invasion, falling in love with a dashing captain along the way.

What is different about Mulan the movie to the 1998 cartoon?

It has been revealed that the character Li Shang is missing from the live-action remake of Mulan, as his storyline is not "appropriate" in the #MeToo era.

The film tells of a woman who disguises herself as a man to fight in place of her father in China's imperial army.

In the 1998 animated original, based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, General Li Shang developed a bond with Mulan's male warrior alter-ego Ping.

After her true identity was revealed, she and Li Shang have dinner together.

Given recent revelations in Hollywood, however, producer Jason Reed confirmed they were uncomfortable with the power dynamics in their relationship.

"I think particularly in the time of the #MeToo movement, having a commanding officer that is also the sexual love interest was very uncomfortable and we didn't think it was appropriate," Reed told

"We split Li Shang into two characters [for the remake]. One became Commander Tung, who serves as her surrogate father and mentor in the course of the movie.

"The other is Honghui who is [Mulan's] equal in the squad."

Disney released a trailer for the film showing Mulan being told she must be a “good wife”.

However it then quickly switches to an epic battle sequence.

Mulan simply says: “It’s my duty to fight.”
