The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus warns there’s no way back for Carol and Daryl after deadly trap
THE Walking Dead’s midseason premiere was full of surprises – and it looks like one long-standing friendship is on the brink of collapse.
The AMC zombie drama returned this week with an episode titled Squeeze, which saw Carol (Melissa McBride), Daryl (Norman Reedus) and the gang battle their way out of Alpha’s (Samantha Morton) underground trap.
Fans will remember how in last year’s midseason finale, Carol gave chase to Alpha while attempting to track down her horde of walkers.
In deviating from the plan she endangered the entire group, and Reedus said this betrayal was set to play out before the end of season 10.
The pair have historically been the best of friends, but the actor made it clear that their relationship had been irreparably damaged by the reckless move.
“We went through the whole season with me having her back as I always do, but she’s just gone rogue,” he began.
“She’s doing her own thing and she’s getting people hurt. She’s getting people killed and she doesn’t care.”
He explained that Carol had been pushed over the edge by the murder of her adopted son Henry (Matt Lintz) at the hands of Alpha.
Carol even turned to drugs to cope with her pain, but this resulted in insomnia and vivid hallucinations.
Unfortunately, Daryl’s efforts to pull Carol out of her grief have had limited success.

“Her son was beheaded by this Alpha and she just sees red. She’s making poor decisions. I have that line, ‘We don’t fight for revenge. We fight for our future.’ And it’s me constantly picking up what she’s dropping down and I’m not agreeing with it,” Reedus continued.
“And she’s not listening. And it’s poor decision making. It’s when you make decisions that are from an emotional place and they’re not thought out and she doesn’t care who gets hurt.
“It’s just this blind rage that’s leading her down the path and it’s not good for anybody,” he added to Entertainment Weekly.
Reedus said that Darly was exasperated after giving her chances time and time again, only to be let down.
“We think we’re cool, and then she f***s it up. Then you think we’re cool again, and she f***s it up again. And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I have your back, but this is getting ridiculous,’” he went on.
“And it ends up with this dynamite that she just won’t let go and she has to sneak away in the dark and plant it on the rock formation that’s going to come down and kill this horde. And it ends up that she almost gets herself killed. And it ends up getting two beloved characters trapped.”
Reedus claimed that Carol actually wanted a rise from Daryl, which he was reluctant to succumb to.
Nonetheless, while Daryl won’t be cutting Carol out anytime soon, Reedus suggested he would forgive, but not forget.
He concluded: “She’s like, ‘Just say it, just tell me, tell me I’m a f— up.’ I’m so pissed, but I won’t even give her that satisfaction.
“But, then again, in true Daryl form, I’m like, I won’t give up. I’m going to go find a way back into this death trap. But the relationship is definitely not the same relationship anymore.”
The comments come after fans were left “vomiting” after Alpha (Samantha Morton) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) romped in the forest – and she kept her mask of rotting flesh on.
Show boss Angela Kang explained Alpha’s true motives in a candid analysis of the scene.
The Walking Dead continues on Sunday on AMC, and on FOX UK on Monday.
