The Walking Dead fans spot plot hole with Oceanside and The Saviours after brutal revenge murders

The Walking Dead

AHEAD of The Walking Dead’s return for the second half of season 10, fans have been re-watching episodes.

Unfortunately, upon revisiting season 9 some fans noticed something of an inconsistency when it came to the fallout from the war with The Whisperers, specifically in relation to Oceanside.

Oceanside, along with Alexandria, Hilltop and The Kingdom, made up the allied communities who united against Negan and The Saviours (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Oceanside was decimated when The Saviours killed the entirety of their male population and forcing the remaining women to regularly hand over resources, under the threat of death.

Understandably, this left the women of Oceanside reluctant to trust strangers, although they eventually decided to stand in solidarity with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and co.

Negan was ultimately overthrown and incarcerated in Alexandria, but with hindsight, many viewers felt that Oceanside managing to take down their oppressors seemed unfeasible, especially given the lack of repercussions.

Under a thread titled Oceanside in Season 9, one fan @itsalwayss queried: “So did nobody else find out about Oceanside killing those Saviours besides Daryl (Norman Reedus), Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Rick?

“Wouldn’t that have led to the other Saviours wanting revenge, or did they just accept it and join the other communities?’

Addressing the supposed oversight, another Reddit user replied: “Unfortunately the show doesn't really do a good job of explaining what is happening back at camp while Rick and Daryl are stuck in that hole having their heart to heart.

“We are led to assume that Jed (Rhys Coiro) and the others either figured it out or just got tired of waiting and started a shootout with everyone.”

They continued: “My biggest pet peeve in season 9 is how little we know about that shootout.”

It’s fair to say that given The Saviours’ extensive history of violence, it seems unlikely that they would take their slaughter of their own lying down.

Another fan claimed that some of The Saviours actually ended up joining Oceanside after the fall of The Sanctuary.

“If I remember right, Jed finds out that it was Oceanside (though we're never told how), and that's what caused the shoot-out to happen at the camp in 9x04,” they said.

“He and a handful of other Saviours wanted revenge but I guess after that fight, the ones that survived broke off from the communities to live on their own.

“But there were ex-Saviours that weren't involved in that that chose to join the communities instead after the Sanctuary fell.”

Clearly Negan’s brainwashing wasn’t as effective as he thought…

The furore comes after show boss Angela Kang claimed season 13 would end with an epic cliffhanger.

Elsewhere, AMC released the official episode titles and plot descriptions for the next two episodes of The Walking Dead.

They promised a bloody siege of Alexandria as Alpha takes her brutal command of The Whisperers to new extremes.

The Walking Dead season 10 returns on February 23 on AMC and on February 24 on FOX UK.
