Brits 2020: Viewers in tears as Lewis Capaldi performs Someone You Loved after Jack Whitehall’s Caroline Flack tribute
BRIT Awards viewers were in tears tonight as Lewis Capaldi performed Someone You Loved after Jack Whitehall's heartfelt Caroline Flack tribute.
The host took a moment to remember the TV star after her tragic death at her London home on Saturday.
He said: "Before our next performance, I just wanted to add that over the weekend we learned the awful news that a member of the BRITs family, our friend, Caroline Flack, tragically passed away.
"She was a kind and vibrant person with an infectious sense of fun. She will be sorely missed.
"I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say our thoughts are with her friends and family."
It was followed by Lewis's emotional track, which he recently revealed was written after his grandma's death.
The stage was cast in a red light as the Scotsman belted out his mega hit, leaving viewers at home in pieces.
One wrote on Twitter: "Caroline Flack tribute then Lewis Capaldi with someone you loved, way to make us cry 😭 #Brits2020 #BRITs."
A second shared: "Lump in throat and holding back the tears with that Jack Whitehall dedication to Caroline Flack and then they get Lewis Capaldi to song Someone You Loved right after 😭💔😭💔😭."
Another posted: "the tribute to Caroline flack at the BRITS tonight was beautiful."
The inquest into Caroline's death will be opened and adjourned tomorrow so a full investigation into the beloved presenter's passing can be carried out.
Her death came hours after she was told prosecutors would be pushing ahead with an assault trial - despite boyfriend Lewis Burton's requests to drop the case.
She was said to have been determined to prove her innocence when the case eventually went to crown court, scheduled for March 4.
But she was also tormented by strict bail conditions which prevented her from contacting Lewis until after the trial - which her managers slammed as a "show trial".
Her team said she was “terrified” about the case coming to trial and footage of her arrest being played out in court.
Lewis, 27, rushed back from a skiing holiday after being told the shocking news of her death.
YOU'RE NOT ALONE
EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.
It doesn't discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society - from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.
It's the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.
And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.
Yet it's rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.
That is why The Sun launched the You're Not Alone campaign.
The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.
Let's all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others... You're Not Alone.
If you, or anyone you know, needs help dealing with mental health problems, the following organisations provide support:

On Friday he had posted a picture of the couple, saying: “Happy Valentine’s. Love You.”
A source close to the star said: “They are trying to make out it was a really serious assault, that Lewis suffered a significant injury and that Caroline may have been an ongoing danger to him.
“It’s total nonsense, the whole thing was designed to be a glitzy show trial.
“Now they’re trying to cover their tracks by vaguely claiming it was ‘in the public interest’.
“There was no public interest — this was a minor incident blown out of proportion when the CPS knew Caroline was incredibly vulnerable. Prosecutors have some very serious questions to answer.”
