David Walliams ‘will not return to host the National Television Awards after boring performance’

DAVID Walliams will not return as host of next year’s NTAs after being stung by criticism of his performance.

The Britain’s Got Talent star’s turn at the celeb-filled event was panned by rival Piers Morgan while viewers called it “boring”.

A source told the : “David is a very sensitive soul and was all too aware of the negative feedback.

“He doesn’t want to put himself through that again.”

The Sun Online has contacted a representative for David for comment.

Piers, who boycotted the ceremony in protest over GMB never winning an award, called the host annoying as he watched from home.

He urged Ricky Gervais, who was in the crowd following his critically acclaimed hosting job at the Golden Globes, to storm the stage.

And Piers was particularly irked when David ditched his trousers and perched on Ant and Dec’s lap before receiving the Best TV Judge prize.

Viewers had mixed opinions on the performance, with some claiming the jokes felt dated and uninspired.

A shadow had been cast over this year’s event before it had even begun, following the death of telly legend Nicholas Parsons.

Stars paid tribute to the broadcasting great, who died aged 96.

David, Rob Brydon and Brendan O’Carroll were among those who remembered the Sale of the Century host at the awards.

The host told the audience: “Someone who we would have loved to have welcomed tonight is Nicholas Parsons.”

“I would regularly see him at different things over the years. He was never anything but delightful. He was an inspiration.”

Mrs Brown’s Boys creator and star Brendan, 64, told The Sun: “He was amazing. It’s a terrible loss. We’re losing too many good people. He was a gentleman.”

Nicholas, whose career on stage, radio and TV spanned eight decades, died overnight after a short illness.
