PRICE OF FREEDOM

Westworld warns ‘free will is not free’ in bleak season 3 teaser of decimated host

WESTWORLD’S latest series will see the hosts heading out of the famous theme-park for the first time – but a new teaser shows they may not have escaped their plight.

The popular HBO sci-fi mystery sees android hosts treated miserably by human guests in the Wild West-themed attraction.

Westworld, which earned 21 Emmy nominations, ended its second season in explosive fashion, with two robot revolutionaries escaping the dastardly park.

Married show producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have so far refused to reveal what is in store for fans in series three.

But the poster has just been released and it looks like it will be bleaker than ever.

The picture features a metal robot stripped of its usual human features struggling through sand in front of a massive futuristic city.

, Nolan described this series as a "radical shift" from the previous two as some of it will be set outside Westworld.

He said: “What's compelling and appealing about these characters is that they're not human.

“You couldn't expect human characters to withstand and survive the kind of story that we're telling.

“The hosts have a different version of mortality, a different outlook. They're existential. They span eons. And that's a fascinating level of story to engage in.”

A press release from HBO describes the new season as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the birth of a new form of life on Earth,” while revealing the hosts who escaped the park in season two are being hunted down.

Westworld 3 will again feature actors Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Tessa Thompson and Jeffrey Wright.

They will be joined for season three – which will premiere on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV on 16 March and consists of eight episodes – by Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul.

In an interview with The Independent in October, Paul said: “This show is so unbelievably ambitious and I walk onto these sets and my jaw is on the floor.

“I feel like I’m a little kid again playing cops and robbers on the biggest scale possible. It’s so much fun and I love sci-fi – that’s my favourite genre. It’s great.”
