Cara Delevingne, Sam Smith and Michelle Visage are among the celebs shortlisted for the British LGBT Awards
CARA Delevingne, Sam Smith and Michelle Visage are among the celebs in the running for honours as the British LGBT Awards announces its 2020 shortlist.
The Sun Online can exclusively reveal the star-studded collection of nominees for the prestigious ceremony that will take place in London on May 29.
The Awards, in association with Founding Partner NatWest, celebrate the campaigners and allies who have made a positive impact on the LGBT+ community during the past 12 months in a ceremony full of glitz and glamour.
Nominated for the Sports Personality Award is former Welsh International Rugby Player Gareth Thomas, who has taken on the role as a powerful HIV advocate since revealing his diagnosis last year.
Gareth was nominated alongside transgender British racing car driver, Charlie Martin.
Also featured is MTV’s True Love or True Dies, hosted by father-daughter duo, Danny and Dani Dyer, which is nominated in the Media Moment category alongside the BBC’s Gentleman Jack and Strictly Come Dancing, which featured its first same-sex dance routine last November.
Grammy-award winner Lizzo, non-binary artist Sam Smith and record-breaking Ariana Grande will battle it out alongside Lil Nas X, who came out as gay last June, to see who will be crowned the MTV Music Artist of the Year.
Nesté, Ikea and Renault are amongst some of the major brands vying for prizes on the night.
Sarah Garrett, MBE, British LGBT Awards founder, said: “A really exciting mix of some of the world’s most deserving LGBT+ people, allies and organisations have been nominated this year.
“These awards shine a light on those who stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the LGBT+ community during uncertain and challenging times.
“The nominees are all role models who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to raising awareness of, or advancing, LGBT+ rights.
“The 2020 ceremony is going to be the British LGBT Awards biggest event yet.”
Jane Hinchliffe, Head of Colleague Experience and Proposition at NatWest said: “NatWest is proud to continue our partnership with the British LGBT Awards.
“The Awards are about more than recognising the nominees and winners, they are about creating a change in attitudes towards diversity and inclusion across every part of the UK.
“This is something that all of us at NatWest are committed to, and proud to celebrate.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Brewery in Barbican, London on 29 May.
The public are invited to cast their votes for the winner now at
