Kate Garraway reveals husband Derek Draper proposed to her for a second time as they reunited after I’m A Celebrity exit
KATE Garraway revealed her husband Derek Draper got down on one knee and proposed to her for a second time when they were reunited after I'm A Celebrity.
Derek had intended to pop the question to renew their vows in front of the ITV cameras, but he was so emotional he couldn't do it.
However, he got a second chance moments later thanks to their children, who were aware of his plan.
Speaking to the , she said: "You’re told you can’t take any jewellery into the jungle. I didn’t want to take my wedding ring off, as I never have since we got married. But I did take my engagement ring off.
"When Derek came to meet me after I left the jungle, he was planning to propose to me again [with the ring, in front of the TV cameras], but he got overwhelmed and burst into tears.
"The kids leapt out and surprised me, and Darcey said, "Oh Dad – you didn’t do it!" So he got down on one knee and proposed… and I said yes, obviously."
Kate's husband was her biggest cheerleader while she was in the jungle.
The 52-year-old businessman even appeared on Good Morning Britain with children Darcy, 13, and William, 10, and revealed Kate had packed skimpy bikinis for the jungle shower.
Presenter Charlotte Hawkins raised the subject of the iconic I'm A Celeb jungle shower scenes, and said to Derek: "One thing we haven't seen yet are the jungle showers.
"It's been reported that the ladies won't be partaking in the jungle shower this year."
She added: "But we know she's got a great selection of bikinis."
Derek replied: "She's got some ones that cover her up, and at the bottom of her suitcase, she's got some skimpier bikinis."
He added that Kate was a little worried about how much to show in the jungle shower, but he reassured her.
He said: "She said to me, 'I don't think I'll wear these.' But I of course I always think she looks amazing. And I said, 'wear them if you want to.' So we'll see which ones she gets out."
And Ben quipped: "Probably when the voting starts."
Derek told The Sun Online Kate always looks her best the moment she wakes up after fans insisted she must have smuggled make-up into the camp.
He said: "Take it from someone who knows - she never looks better than first thing in the morning.
"When we go on romantic breaks I beg her not to put make-up on. She's naturally beautiful, and adorable and awesome, and she's smashing it in the jungle."
Good Morning Britain presenter Kate and Derek married in north London in 2005, when he was a political aide to then-Labour minister Peter Mandelson.
Kate has been a breakfast TV star since 1998, when she joined Sky News' Sunrise, before co-presenting GMTV Today with Andrew Castle in 2000.
She appeared in the fifth series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2007, when she was partnered with Anton DuBeke.
