CORONATION Street star Lisa George has revealed the strict training regime for Dancing On Ice has resulted in a dramatic weight loss.

The 49-year-old soap actress turns 50 this year and one of her main aims is to get fit - and during her short time on the show she has already managed to drop a dress size without actually shedding any weight.

Speaking to the magazine about taking part in the competition, she admitted that although she feels self conscious about the way she looks, the hard training sessions have already helped her improve the way she looks.

"It's helped me tone up and drop a dress size, but I haven't lost a pound, which is frustrating," she told the magazine.

The star also revealed that she would like to get rid of her Type 2 diabetes and her new fitness regime will certainly help her get to where she wants with her body image and health.

During the interview, Lisa, who plays Beth Tinker in Coronation Street admitted that she's kept a low profile in the past because she didn't like the way she looked.

"I've kept a low profile in the past because of my poor body image, I was never confident with my body weight and didn't like how I looked.

"I didn't want to be in magazines because of the other girls at Corrie are really slim and pretty, and there's a lot of pressure. I'm 20-30 years older than them."

"I hold myself back a lot. I'm a bag of nerves. I've always been told it's like I have an invisible rope around my neck hanging myself because I know I can do it - but I stop myself all the time. I'm insecure. I think people will laugh at me."

Despite dropping a dress size, Lisa is certain to say that she won't be wearing anything skimpy during her live performances as she still feels most conscious about her middle section and her arms.

The actress was a natural on the ice rink last week during her first live performance and even came second on the leader board.

Lisa revealed in her chat to Sunday People magazine that she did in fact skate when she was younger, but an injury scared her away from the rink.

"I skated when I was a child until I fell and cut my chin open in a competition. Then I lost my confidence and stopped.

"It's been 40 years since I've been on the ice. A little voice was telling me I could do it. I went for the audition and I absolutely loved it, I felt so free. So I signed up. Getting older you start to lose your inhibitions a bit more."

Lisa added that she's taking part in the show to represent all the other women out there who don't feel happy in the skin they're in.

"There are lots of women my age, perimenopausal women like me, who are not body confident. I'm doing it for them. I'm not a supermodel like Caprice," she added.

Last Sunday the first live show saw Lisa take to the rink, as well as TV presenter Joe Swash 37, Diversity star Perri Kiely, 23, Michael Barrymore, 67, and Steps star Ian Watkins, 43.

Tonight Love Island Star Maura Higgins, 29, model Caprice Bourret, 48, magician Ben Hanlin, 33, ITV news host Lucrezia Millarini, 43, professional footballer Kevin Kilbane, 42, Paralympic athlete Libby Clegg, 29 will battle it out to see who has what it takes to top the leader board.

Catch the second episode of the series tonight on ITV1 at 6pm.
