X Factor’s ‘Tesco’ Mary Byrne looks unrecognisable after huge weight loss 12 years on from show
THE X Factor's 'Tesco Mary' Byrne looks unrecognisable after losing six stone since taking part in the show.
Mary, 62, appeared on the ITV singing competition back in 2010 - the same year as One Direction - and previously revealed that her weight crept up to 21 stone during filming.
The Irish singer proudly revealed how she lost "half a person in weight", with the positive impact on her mental health also meaning that she no longer needs anti-depressants.
Speaking out about her dramatic transformation, Mary shared: "I looked at the picture of me on the show and me now and I honestly was shocked.
"Because it has happened gradually over the decade I guess I haven’t noticed it as much but yes, it is a shocking amount of weight loss."
The singer continued to the: "I was just under 21 stone on the show and I am now just over 15 stone.
"My daughter is the reason behind it and we fight like cats and dogs because she is so strict on me; but it has worked.
"She won’t let me do the shopping because she knows I buy rubbish, which I will; but she has made me realise that life is there for living."
The former supermarket worker continued: "I still suffer from depression but because I feel so good I am talking to my doctor about coming off the anti depression tablets.
"I don’t need them any more."
Discussing the secrets behind her image overhaul, Mary said that she now eats small portions of healthy food and exercises regularly.
