The Witcher’s Yennefer actress has revealed a big blunder in a knife attack scene that made it into the show

In one scene from the fourth episode, Yennefer and Queen Kalis of Lyria are ambushed by an assassin and his horrifying creature as they ride along in a coach.

But in a new interview, Anya, 23, revealed the scene didn’t go according to plan during filming.

She said: “We had Alex, the director, shout, ‘One, two, three, four!’ and we just had to look at these knives coming through the carriage.

“That was actually really hard; to get the timing right with both of us.

Anya admitted the knives were added in by CGI after filming the scene

“I remember we both actually looked different ways to begin with. It was so funny.

“The knives were put in [with] CGI later.”

The same episode saw Yennefer bury the Queen’s dead baby girl despite her best efforts to save her from the assassin.

Anya revealed the scene was bittersweet for her, telling Metro Online: “It was [really hard] and it’s also hard when the sun’s going down and we have to get the shot then, and but what it is, it’s like it’s also a gift, because what the writers have created in Yennefer’s journey just gives you so much more.

Yennefer has a lot going on behind the facade according to Anya

“It’s just a deeper understanding of the character where she’s going, her motives, and yeah, I love those things where we can connect with the heart of Yennefer, behind the facade.”

Given that Yennefer gave up her ability to conceive in exchange for her beauty, it’s no surprise the moment resonated with her.

The death of the baby ultimately drives her urge to mother a child of her own, which in turn sees her barter with a wish-granting dijinn to restore her fertility.

The Witcher is available to stream on Netflix now.
