Game of Thrones’ Alfie Allen says there’s ‘never a good ending’ & backs writers under ‘huge pressure’ after fan outrage

GAME of Thrones' Alfie Allen has thrown his support behind the show's writers insisting they were under 'huge pressure' after the drama's controversial ending.

The 33-year-old played Theon Greyjoy from when the show launched in 2011 right through to the final series, which aired in May this year.

The final series of Game of Thrones - which saw Theon be killed by the Night King in the third episode - proved divisive for fans as did it's controversial ending.

Speaking to , Alfie said ending such a cult show perfectly was never going to be achievable.

He said: "People were just massively emotionally invested in it, and that’s testament to how great the show is.

"Things ended in a similar fashion with Breaking Bad and The Sopranos.

"There’s never a good ending and I think [the show’s writers] David Benioff and DB Weiss had a huge amount of pressure on them."

During the chat, Alfie admitted that by the time the eighth and final season came around, he was ready to say goodbye to the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.

He said: "I was excited to move on, without a doubt.

"I think there was always that fear from when we started: God, you know, this is going to be for quite a while.

"You don’t want to get sucked into thinking negatively about something that’s essentially a very positive thing, but I would fluctuate."

He continued: "The majority of the time, the feeling for me was: I either give it my all, or I p*** and moan about it.

"Even if you are going to p*** and moan about something, you’re going to use that emotion to the betterment of your character, and that’s what I tried to do."
