STORMING HOLLYWOOD

Rapper Stormzy hints at move into film industry after creating ‘motion picture’ company Merky Films Limited

HE has won over the UK with his music but Stormzy could soon be storming Hollywood with another skill.

The grime star has dropped a strong hint he has his sights set on making it into cinemas, by registering a new firm called Merky Films Limited on Companies House.

He has previously shown his entrepreneurial spirit with ventures including his own record company and Penguin Random House imprint #Merky Books to publish up-and-coming authors.

But the latest, which he is listed as a company director for, describes its nature of business as “motion picture production activities.”

He has set up the company with his manager and friend Tobe Onwuka and brand manager Akua Agyemfra — although it's not clear whether he will be hands-on with the films which are made through the firm.

An industry source said: “Stormzy is hugely popular as an artist but importantly, he’s also massively influential to young people.

“There is a lot of interest in what Stormzy could do outside of music.

“Promoting young talent through his own film-making company could be extremely lucrative, but he can also act, so the sky’s the limit."

Viewers will soon find out whether Stormzy really does have what it takes to make it on screen, as he will play a newspaper editor in a TV series adaptation of Malorie Blackman's children’s novel Noughts & Crosses on BBC1 next year.

And by the looks of who he was hanging out with on Thursday night, he already has someone to give him acting advice.

He joined Harry Styles, who starred in 2017’s Dunkirk, on stage at an intimate show at Camden’s Electric Ballroom in London.

He told the crowd: “Harry Styles is a f***ing legend... You’re not just a popstar, you’re a brilliant artist.” With compliments like that, I’m sure he will be welcome back.

Katie prices her look

EVER wanted to look like Katie Price? Nope, me neither.

The cash-strapped former model has revealed that next year she will start holding her own make-up masterclasses – and is charging fans £80 to reveal her secrets.

She will hold the sessions in Aberdeen, Newcastle and Liverpool in January and February and promises everyone will get a goody bag as well as the chance to meet her.

A description on her website says: “Katie Price will share her top make-up looks and explain how to recreate them.” But given she’s had countless cosmetic ops on her face, I doubt make-up has much to do with it.

Katie, pictured in September, was out last weekend in London where she barely seemed to be able to open her eyes, which I assume was due to even more surgery.

And even if she has a dab hand with mascara, I can’t see £80 making that worthwhile.

No1, for the love of Rod

IF anyone thought it was a two-horse race between Stormzy and Harry Styles to claim this week’s No1 album, they were way off the mark.

, which was released back in November, has beaten both of the new albums to the top spot.

Rod scored 71,000 sales – including 68,000 as physical releases – to blow his much younger competition out of the water.

And despite being ahead earlier in the week, Harry’s Fine Line is at No3, while Stormzy’s Heavy Is The Head edged in at No2.

Given the fact that both Stormzy and Harry’s records have been streamed millions of times since they were released on Friday of last week, it begs the question of whether the ratio of physical sales to streams is being balanced correctly by chart experts.

But being presented with his No1 award, Rod proudly said: “This is, as you can see, a No1 plaque for a No1 album. This is my second one in 12 months and I sincerely thank you. I’ll never take you for granted.”
